reescalation

Conflict heating again

Reescalation is a renewed increase in intensity after a period of de-escalation.

The term appears most often in discussions of conflict—military, diplomatic, or interpersonal—where tensions had subsided but have flared again: Ceasefire violations led to reescalation along the border.
