real-time captions

Instant spoken text

Real-time captions are text transcriptions of spoken words displayed as they're being said, with minimal delay.

Unlike pre-prepared subtitles, they're generated live—by human stenographers or speech recognition software—for broadcasts, video calls, or live events: The conference provided real-time captions for deaf attendees.

Also called live captions.
