read minds

Access others' thinking

To read minds is to know what someone is thinking without being told—a supposed psychic ability in fiction and folklore, but in everyday speech usually hyperbolic: I can't read minds; you have to tell me what's wrong.

Someone who seems to anticipate others' thoughts uncannily might be said to read minds: She reads minds—she knew exactly what I needed.
