rapid tests
Fast screening tools
Rapid tests are diagnostic tests designed to deliver results quickly, typically within minutes rather than hours or days.
They're most commonly associated with at-home COVID-19 antigen tests but also include pregnancy tests, strep throat swabs, and blood glucose monitors.
The tradeoff for speed is often reduced accuracy compared to laboratory tests, so a negative rapid test may be followed by a more sensitive test if symptoms persist.
I took a rapid test before visiting my grandmother.
