ramdisk
Volatile storage volume
A ramdisk is a portion of computer memory configured to behave like a storage drive.
Because RAM operates far faster than physical hard drives or even solid-state drives, a ramdisk offers extremely quick read and write speeds.
The tradeoff is volatility—contents disappear when the computer powers off.
Ramdisks are used for temporary files, caching, or applications where speed matters more than persistence: I set up a ramdisk for my browser cache.
