raccoon tail
Striped masked-bandit's rear
A raccoon tail is the striped, bushy tail of a raccoon, or an imitation of one.
Raccoon tails were traditionally worn as decorative accessories on caps and hats, especially associated with American frontier figures like Davy Crockett: The kid wanted a coonskin cap with the raccoon tail dangling down the back.
Raccoon tails also appear as novelty items attached to car antennas or bicycle handlebars.
