queer representation
Non-straight media presence
Queer representation refers to the depiction of LGBTQ+ people and experiences in media, art, politics, or other public spheres.
The term often carries evaluative weight—discussions focus on whether representation exists, whether it's authentic or stereotypical, and whether queer people have creative control: The show was praised for its queer representation.
The phrase can also mean political advocacy by or for queer communities.
