quartz clock
Mineral-powered timekeeper
A quartz clock keeps time using the vibrations of a quartz crystal, which oscillates at a precise frequency when electricity passes through it.
Introduced in the 1970s, quartz movement largely displaced mechanical clockwork in everyday timekeeping because it's cheaper, more accurate, and requires less maintenance.
My quartz clock loses only a few seconds per month.
