quantitative verse
Length-based meter
Quantitative verse is poetry structured around syllable length rather than stress.
In classical Greek and Latin poetry, syllables were classified as long or short based on vowel sounds and consonant clusters, and meter arose from patterns of these durations.
English poetry typically uses stress-based meter instead, making true quantitative verse difficult to reproduce: Attempts to write English quantitative verse usually feel artificial.
