pyramidal neurons

Cortical triangular cells

Pyramidal neurons are nerve cells with a distinctive pyramid-shaped cell body, found primarily in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus.

They are the principal excitatory neurons in the mammalian brain, responsible for transmitting signals between brain regions and forming the neural basis of cognition, memory, and voluntary movement.

Their long axons can project across hemispheres or down to the spinal cord.
