Purled is the past tense of purl, a knitting stitch made by inserting the needle through the front of a stitch and wrapping the yarn around it from behind—essentially the reverse of a knit stitch.
Alternating rows of knit and purl stitches creates the stretchy ribbed texture common in sweater cuffs and hat brims.

In a different sense, water purls when it flows with a gentle swirling motion and murmuring sound.
