pull plug

Cut off power

To pull the plug is to disconnect something from its power source, and by extension, to end or terminate something abruptly.

You can pull the plug on a project, a deal, or a TV show that isn't working: The network pulled the plug after three episodes.

In medical contexts, pulling the plug means withdrawing life support: The family made the difficult decision to pull the plug.
