A proposition bet, or prop bet, is a wager on something other than the main outcome of an event—typically a specific occurrence within a game rather than who wins.
In football, you might bet on whether a particular player scores first or how many yards a quarterback throws.
Casinos also offer proposition bets on dice outcomes.
The term sometimes extends to informal side wagers between individuals: I'll make you a prop bet that he's late.
