private viewing
Invitation-only art display
A private viewing is an exclusive showing of art, property, or a body before the general public has access.
Galleries hold private viewings for collectors and press before exhibitions open: We attended a private viewing of the new installation.
In funeral contexts, it refers to time with the deceased restricted to family before public visitation.
