prison wine
Inmate-fermented alcohol
Prison wine is a crude alcoholic beverage fermented by inmates using whatever sugary ingredients are available—typically fruit, fruit juice, sugar packets, and bread or ketchup as a yeast source.
The mixture ferments in a sealed container hidden from guards, often for a week or more.
Also called pruno or hooch, it's notoriously foul-tasting but valued for its intoxicating effects in an environment where alcohol is forbidden.
They found a bag of prison wine fermenting behind the laundry machines.
