prior claim
First dibs legally
A prior claim is a right or entitlement that takes precedence because it existed first.
In legal and financial contexts, prior claims must be satisfied before later ones: Creditors with prior claims get paid first in bankruptcy.
More broadly, it describes any preexisting demand on resources, time, or attention: Family has a prior claim on my weekends.
