primary colour
Unmixed spectrum component
Primary colours are the set from which other colours can be mixed but which cannot themselves be produced by mixing.
The traditional set is red, yellow, and blue; in light and digital displays, it's red, green, and blue (RGB); in printing, cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY).
Children learn to mix primary colours in art class.
The concept is foundational to colour theory.
