primal therapy
Cathartic trauma release
Primal therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which patients are encouraged to relive and express repressed childhood traumas, often through intense emotional release including screaming and crying.
Developed by Arthur Janov in the 1970s, the approach holds that neurosis stems from suppressed pain from early life.
The therapy gained brief celebrity attention but lacks scientific support.
