preassembly

Building before installation

Preassembly is the process of putting components together before final installation or use.

In manufacturing and construction, parts are preassembled in controlled environments—a factory floor rather than a job site—to save time and ensure quality: The preassembly of wall panels cut weeks off the construction schedule.

The term also refers to the partially assembled unit itself.
