postpartum anxiety
After-birth mental distress
Postpartum anxiety is excessive worry, fear, or panic experienced by a mother in the weeks or months following childbirth.
Unlike typical new-parent concerns, it involves intrusive thoughts, racing heartbeat, difficulty sleeping even when the baby sleeps, or hypervigilance about the infant's safety.
Often discussed alongside postpartum depression, though the two conditions are distinct: She was screened for postpartum anxiety at her six-week checkup.
