pocket computers
Mobile digital assistants
Pocket computers are small computing devices designed to be carried in a pocket or hand.
The term appeared in the 1980s for programmable calculators and early handheld computers, then faded as smartphones absorbed their functions.
Today it sounds slightly dated or technical, though it accurately describes what a smartphone is: Your pocket computer has more processing power than the machines that landed astronauts on the moon.
