plosive
Speech sound burst
A plosive is a consonant sound made by completely blocking airflow, then releasing it in a small burst—the p in "pop," the t in "top," the k in "kick." English has six: p, b, t, d, k, g.
The term appears mainly in phonetics and speech training: Work on softening your plosives for the microphone.
