pit fighting
Underground animal battles
Pit fighting is organized combat between animals or humans in an enclosed space, historically a pit or ring.
Dog fighting and cockfighting are forms of pit fighting, now illegal in most places.
The term extends to underground human fights staged for gambling or entertainment: The warehouse hosted illegal pit fighting on weekends.
In fantasy settings, pit fighting often appears as gladiatorial combat for crowds.
