Pistachio nuts are the edible seeds of a tree native to Central Asia and the Middle East.
The small, greenish kernels come in shells that split partially when ripe, making them easy to open by hand.
Pistachios are eaten roasted and salted as a snack, or used in cooking and desserts: pistachio ice cream, baklava studded with pistachio nuts.
