pink-eye
Contagious eye redness
Pink-eye is conjunctivitis—inflammation of the membrane lining the eyelid and covering the white of the eye.
The condition causes redness, itching, and discharge.
It's highly contagious in its viral and bacterial forms, making it a recurring worry in schools and daycares: Half the kindergarten came down with pink-eye.
Also spelled pinkeye.
