pimpernel

Cloudcast flower closure

Pimpernel is a small wildflower with scarlet, blue, or white petals that close in cloudy weather—hence its folk name "poor man's weatherglass." The Scarlet Pimpernel is the title character of a 1905 novel, a seemingly idle English aristocrat who secretly rescues French nobles from the guillotine.

His name became shorthand for an elusive hero or master of disguise.
