cowslip

Spring meadow bloom

Cowslip is a European wildflower with clusters of fragrant yellow blooms that droop from a single stalk, flowering in early spring in meadows and woodlands.

The plant has long been used in folk medicine and winemaking.

In North America, the name cowslip is sometimes applied to the marsh marigold, an unrelated yellow-flowering plant that also favors damp ground.
