pigmies

Very small folk

Pigmies is an older spelling variant of pygmies, the plural of pygmy.

A pygmy is a member of certain peoples of short stature, particularly from equatorial Africa and Southeast Asia.

The term extends to anything unusually small for its kind: a pygmy hippopotamus.

As an adjective, it means diminutive or insignificant: pygmy efforts at reform.
