perogy

Filled boiled dumpling

A perogy (also spelled pierogi or pyrogy) is a filled dumpling of Eastern European origin, made by wrapping unleavened dough around a savory or sweet filling, then boiling, baking, or frying.

Common fillings include potato and cheese, sauerkraut, ground meat, or fruit.

Perogies are a staple of Polish, Ukrainian, and Russian cuisines and have become popular comfort food in North America, particularly in regions with large Eastern European immigrant populations.

We had perogies with sour cream and fried onions.
