penalty point
Score for violations
A penalty point is a demerit recorded against someone for an infraction.
In driving systems, accumulating too many penalty points on your license leads to suspension: She got three penalty points for speeding.
In sports and games, penalty points are added to a score as punishment for rule violations or errors, effectively worsening a competitor's standing.
