peat-smoke
Whisky's signature aroma
Peat-smoke is the distinctive smoke produced by burning peat—compressed, partially decayed plant matter cut from bogs.
The term appears most often in descriptions of Scotch whisky, where peat fires used to dry malted barley impart a characteristic smoky, earthy flavor: The whisky had strong notes of peat-smoke and iodine.
