pearl inlay
Lustrous embedded ornament
Pearl inlay is a decorative technique embedding pieces of pearl or mother-of-pearl into wood, metal, or other materials.
The iridescent shell fragments are cut into shapes and set into carved recesses, creating ornamental patterns.
Pearl inlay appears on fine furniture, musical instruments, jewelry boxes, and gun stocks: The guitar's fretboard featured elaborate pearl inlay.
