peahens
Drab-feathered fowl females
Peahens are female peafowl—the large, ground-dwelling birds famous for the male's spectacular tail display.
While peacocks have iridescent blue-green plumage and elaborate feathered trains, peahens are mottled brown and gray, camouflaged for nesting.
The peahens watched indifferently as the peacock fanned his feathers.
