passion of a convert
New believer's intensity
The passion of a convert describes the intense, often excessive enthusiasm of someone newly committed to a cause, belief, or practice.
Recent converts frequently display more fervor than those raised in a tradition, eager to prove their commitment and share their discovery: She quit smoking last month and now lectures everyone with the passion of a convert.
The phrase often carries a hint of gentle mockery—suggesting zeal that may mellow with time.
