paraswimming
Disabled competitive swimming
Paraswimming is competitive swimming for athletes with physical, visual, or intellectual disabilities.
Governed by World Para Swimming, the sport uses a classification system that groups swimmers by functional ability to ensure fair competition.
Events follow standard swimming strokes and distances but may allow modified starting positions or techniques based on disability type.
Paraswimming has been a core Paralympic sport since the first Games in 1960.
