papal blessing
Holy Father's invocation
A papal blessing is a formal benediction given by the Pope, the head of the Roman Catholic Church.
The most famous is the *Urbi et Orbi* blessing ("to the city and to the world"), delivered from St.
Peter's Basilica on major occasions like Easter and Christmas.
Papal blessings may also be conferred on individuals, objects, or requested for special occasions: They received a papal blessing for their wedding.
