palooka
Washed-up ring fighter
A palooka is a clumsy, incompetent person—originally and especially an inferior boxer or athlete.
The word evokes someone outmatched and unskilled, taking beatings they can't return: He's just a palooka who doesn't belong in the ring.
The term spread from boxing slang to describe any hapless oaf or easy mark.
