paganisation
Return to polytheism
Paganisation is the process of making something pagan or adopting pagan characteristics—the opposite of Christianisation.
It may describe a society's return to pre-Christian religious practices, or the incorporation of pagan elements into other traditions: Some scholars argue that certain folk customs represent the paganisation of Christian holidays.
The spelling paganization is more common in American English.
