paddywhack
Old-fashioned beating term
Paddywhack has two distinct meanings.
It can be a fit of temper or a spanking—the word appears in the nursery rhyme "This Old Man" (knick-knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone).
Separately, paddywhack is dried beef or buffalo neck ligament sold as a dog chew.
In older British slang, Paddywhack was also a derogatory term for an Irish person, from Paddy (a common Irish name).
