overseasoning
Ruining with salt
Overseasoning is adding too much salt, spice, or other flavoring to food, overwhelming the dish's natural taste: The overseasoning ruined an otherwise good steak.
The verb overseason works similarly: Be careful not to overseason the soup.
Figuratively, overseasoning can apply to anything applied too liberally—excessive embellishment in writing, too many effects in a mix.
