overqualify
Have excessive credentials
To overqualify is to have credentials, experience, or skills that exceed what a position or task requires.
The term almost always appears in passive form: someone is overqualified for a job when their qualifications surpass what the role demands.
She was rejected for being overqualified—they assumed she'd leave as soon as something better came along.
The concern with overqualified candidates is typically that they'll become bored, demand higher pay, or quickly move on.
