overcommit

Take on too much

To overcommit is to promise or take on more than you can deliver.

Someone overcommits their time by scheduling too many meetings, their budget by pledging funds they don't have, or their energy by agreeing to help everyone who asks.

I overcommitted this week and now I'm drowning.

In computing, memory overcommit allows a system to allocate more memory than physically available, betting that not all processes will need their full allocation simultaneously.
