off-shore

Beyond the coast

Off-shore describes things located in or moving toward waters away from land: off-shore drilling, off-shore winds.

The term extends to business and finance, where offshore accounts, companies, or investments are based in foreign countries—typically to reduce taxes or avoid regulations: They moved their profits offshore.

As a verb, to offshore work is to relocate it to another country: The company offshored its customer service to the Philippines.
