oath of citizenship
Immigrant's loyalty promise
An oath of citizenship is a formal pledge of allegiance taken when becoming a citizen of a country.
In the United States, naturalizing citizens swear to support the Constitution, renounce foreign allegiances, and bear arms or perform civilian service if required.
Most countries have similar ceremonies marking the transition from immigrant or resident to full citizen: She took the oath of citizenship after five years of permanent residency.
