nuclear powers
Countries with bombs
Nuclear powers are nations possessing nuclear weapons.
The term emerged during the Cold War as the United States, Soviet Union, Britain, France, and China developed atomic arsenals.
Today it includes additional states: India and Pakistan are both nuclear powers.
The phrase can also mean nations with nuclear energy capabilities, though this sense is less common.
