nonoxynol-9
Lubricant additive, sperm-killing
Nonoxynol-9 is a chemical compound used as a spermicide in contraceptive products like foams, gels, and condom lubricants.
It works by disrupting sperm cell membranes.
Once thought to prevent sexually transmitted infections, it's now known to irritate vaginal tissue and may actually increase infection risk with frequent use.
