non-objective

Purely form-based art

Non-objective describes art that doesn't represent recognizable objects or figures from the external world.

Unlike abstract art, which distorts or simplifies real things, non-objective art has no referent—it consists purely of shapes, colors, and forms: Kandinsky's later paintings are entirely non-objective.

Also spelled nonobjective.
