Nice guys, in contemporary usage, refers to men who believe their basic decency entitles them to romantic or sexual attention from women.
The term is usually ironic or critical, describing men who present themselves as kind and respectful but become resentful when their niceness isn't rewarded: Nice guys always complain about being friendzoned.
The phrase nice guys finish last predates this sense, expressing that ruthlessness beats kindness in competition.
