news specials
Event-focused broadcast segments
News specials are television or radio programs devoted to a single significant story, preempting regular programming for extended coverage.
Networks air them for major breaking events—elections, natural disasters, assassinations, wars—or for in-depth investigations and interviews that demand more time than standard newscasts allow: We interrupt this broadcast for a news special on the developing crisis.
