new year festival
Annual fresh start
A new year festival is a celebration marking the beginning of a calendar year.
Different cultures observe these at different times—Chinese New Year falls in late January or February, Jewish Rosh Hashanah in autumn, the Gregorian New Year on January 1.
Festivities typically involve gatherings, special foods, fireworks, and rituals meant to bring good fortune: The new year festival lasted three days.
